On October 6th, the Gyeonggi Headquarters of the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) awarded the Segyo apartment site in Segyo-dong, Osan-si, which SsangYong E&C is serving as a contractor, first place in the ‘Excellent VE Project’ and second place in ‘Excellent VE Team’ in its ‘Construction VE Exchange’ assessment.

The 83 VE cases chosen in this event were ed through pre-evaluations. The cases presented were from 30 construction sites managed by major Korean construction companies such as Samsung, Hyundai, Doosan, Kumho and Kolon.

LH’s Osan Segyo apartment site is located in the south of Seodongtan New Town with a total floor area of 100,979m2 which holds 727 households in its nine 21-story apartment complexes.

This honorable commendation was a result of the tenacious efforts of all employees of SsangYong applying VE activities with the technical team and the construction team which were approved by LH managers. Also, even from the reviewing stage, SsangYong E&C continuously had been meeting, explaining, and persuading LH supervisors and the structure team of the design center in order to reduce costs.

Several key VE structural changes, such as ‘alteration of basic format of the underground parking lots,’ ‘alteration of reinforcement strength of apartment steel walls,’ and ‘alteration of elevator hall slab thickness’, are the first structural change proposals to be approved by LH to a project already commenced and its design completed.

In the assessment, ‘alteration of basic structure of the underground parking lots’ was nominated 1st place for ‘Excellent VE cases’ and will soon be receiving the ‘LH VE Excellence plate’ as well.

Its award as an exemplary VE case will certainly have a positive effect on design variation or construction evaluation against LH’s supervision and a great opportunity for SsangYong E&C to prove its VE performances and capability for reducing costs.
