On February 4, 2021, the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK) announced that Korean contractors were globally recognized last year for their construction prowess, winning awards in the areas of advanced technology, safety & health management and environmental preservation, with Ssangyong E&C topping the industry with five international awards.

To begin with, Ssangyong E&C received five awards from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and other organizations in Singapore. Specifically, the company’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line construction site received two awards from the LTA, which is also the client in the project. In particular, the company received the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Award, which is granted every year at the Annual SHE Award Convention (ASAC) organized by the LTA, for the second consecutive year. The company also won the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award for Buildings (Healthcare Facilities category) and two awards from the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council, including the Workplace Safety and Health Performance (Silver) Award.

Hyundai E&C, on the other hand, entered the CDP Hall of Fame for the second consecutive year, an honor granted by the UK-based Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) that evaluates and certifies eco-friendly management. The company also won the WHS Award from Singapore’s Workplace Safety and Health (WHS) Council and the A+Award in the landscape design category from the U.S.-based Architizer magazine while being named an Industry Leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

Similarly, Hyundai Engineering received awards from the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety & Health (MSOSH) and the Malaysian Occupational Safety and Health Practitioners‘ Association (MOSHPA), respectively. In Algeria, the company also obtained certification for reaching the 15 million accident-free man-hour mark.
