"When we implement the project, we argue a lot with the client. This is because there is always something that was left vague at the time of contract. Sometimes, the client will demand construction that was not required in the drawings at the time of ordering. Some overseas contractors will go for the nuclear option and flat out stop their work altogether. That&rsquos not who we are."

Sung Sik Kim, head of Ssangyong E&C Singapore, says that Ssangyong E&C has never betrayed the faith of a client.

Mr. Kim said, "Contractors and clients are not enemies, and you can always find solutions to the claims from the clients at some point." &ldquoSsangyong E&C strives to work harder in Singapore even as conflicts arise,&rdquo he added.

He ed the winning of the 2007 Marina Bay Sands Hotel (completed in 2010), one of Singapore&rsquos key landmarks, as his most rewarding experience in Singapore. He will never forget the excitement and thrill of being a first person in the company to learn of this triumph.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel is famous for its unique design and first-in-country casino.

The 55-story building with the maximum slope of 52 degrees, ten times that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, was completed in just 27 months. It is said that Ssangyong E&C fully showcased its world-class construction capability in this project.

Kim said, "I am very proud that Ssangyong E&C is one of the world leaders in construction safety.&rdquo

He emphasized, "we are proud of being one of the best in the industry in terms of safety management, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with firms from Korea, Japan, and Europe." To date, Ssangyong E&C has accumulated 65 million accident-free man-hours in Singapore.

Ssangyong E&C is focusing not only on Singapore's infrastructure construction projects but also its hospital construction projects. The Singapore government is pushing for infrastructure construction to stimulate the economy and also building a large hospital that will distinguish itself as a regional medical hub.

Kim said, "Singapore is a fierce battleground where competitors from all over the world are bringing their best resources and talent." He also expressed his ambition to win further orders by concentrating on productivity and safety issues important to the Singapore government.
