Ssangyong E&C has received the Construction Excellence Award (CEA) in Institutional Buildings at the BCA (Building and Construction Authority) Awards 2018 for Yale-NUS (National University of Singapore) College, according to a statement released by the company on May 23, 2018.

One of the most prestigious honors in the field of construction bestowed by the Building & Construction Authority of Singapore, the BCA Awards for Construction Excellence evaluate construction projects, both completed and in progress, and honor excellence in a total of ten categories including construction, green building, design, safety and quality.

In October 2012, Ssangyong E&C won the USD 18 million project, outcompeting some of the most prominent names in construction such as Shimizu Corporation of Japan in a Price Quality Method (PQM) tender evaluation to become the sole contractor. Three years later, in October 2015, the company celebrated the completion of the project as well as the opening of the school with local and international dignitaries in attendance including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore and chancellors from over 30 universities across Asia.

Designed and constructed as “green” residential colleges, the building complex features special glass with low temperature conductivity and louvered canopies that allow ventilation while blocking sunlight to naturally reduce indoor temperatures by as much as three degrees. In 2013, the project was also awarded the BCA Green Mark “Platinum,” the highest level for the green certification scheme, one of the world’s top three such certifications, in recognition for its “green building” features such as the eco-pond and the recycling system.

“By winning it for the tenth consecutive year and bringing the total to 30 BCA awards, Ssangyong E&C has proved itself once again the best construction company in Singapore’s construction market,” said a Ssangyong executive, commenting on the significance of this year’s award.
